SHANGHAR

A HIDDEN HIMALAYAN PARADISE IN HIMACHAL PRADESH, INDIA

Shanghar is a remote natural wonder hidden in the lap of Indian Himalayas in the GHNP (Great Himalayan National Park) eco zone in Sainj valley of Kullu district of state of Himachal Pradesh.
Shanghar (शांघड़) ,also mispronounced by many as Shangarh or Shangher, host an amazingly beautiful giant meadow surrounded by dense pine forest all around around with magical & magnificent Shenshar, Banaugi and Stogni ranges along with Shanghar range in the backdrop.
Locals say, 5000 years ago during Mahabharat Times, Pandavas came here during their abandon period to live and made Shanghar meadow by purifying the soil of meadow from stones to cultivate rice hence you do not find any kind of stone in this area even if you dig feets!
After Pandavas left, demons settled in this place who were said to be destroyed by Shangchul Mahadev (local deity) from Kinnaur who henceforth owned the Shanghar meadow on paper and himself settled at a extended part of the meadow in a classical Himalayan wooden temple which is now surrounded by few priest houses now.

Nestled under the shadows of the Shensar & Banaugi, Shanghar and Shaktimaror peaks in Sainj valley in Himachal Pradesh at 6,300 feet above sea level, tells a tale of an enormously beautiful and vast meadow near the Great Himalayan National Park, where time stands still even now, safe from the onslaught of tourists.

Shanghar also acts as a base camp for numerous treks in GHNP (Great  Himalayan National Park) which is a world heritage site  listed by UNESCO.
There are several 1-10 days easy to tough treks that can be done starting from here.

Shanghar is quiet accessible round the year by a motorable road from Ropa. There is also a daily HRTC bus from Kullu to Shanghar.
