The Chadar Trek is a winter-trail in Indian union territory Ladakh.
A river called as Zanskar flows from Zanskar region to meet Indus river at Nimmoo, around 35 kilometers from Leh city.
Walls of this river valley are near vertical cliffs up to 600 meters high and the Zanskar River is only 5 meters wide at places contributing to a natural phenomena due to which a thick sheet of ice forms upon the flowing Zanskar river which locals started calling ‘Chadar’ which is a hindi word for bed-sheet.
Although there is a motorable from Leh to Zanskar valley but as it gets closed in winters, walking upon the frozen Zanskar river becomes the only way to commute to Zanskar from Leh for locals from centuries.
In past few years Chadar Trek gained immense popularity among the adventure seekers world wide which made this trek a winter hotspot for tourism in Ladakh which also increased risks for it’s fragile ecology.
It is rated as one of the best treks existing in the planet by many.
Though it does not involve significant hiking being a river bed trail but it throw some serious challenges to the trekkers because of harsh cold temperatures, unexpected snow avalanches and unstable chadar formation.
In this trek we will escort the participants, who pass the fitness test after acclimatization in Leh, to a 5 nights 6 days journey on the Chadar towards the Zanskar valley reaching the frozen waterfall called Nerak & back which will be a 90-100 kms journey on foot.
