Insurance Policy
Mandatory Insurance Requirement
Valid travel and medical insurance is completely mandatory for every participant — including riders (pilots) and SUV / support-vehicle passengers — joining the tour. Participants will not be permitted to commence the trip without presenting a valid copy of their insurance certificate and emergency contact details to the Company's tour leader prior to departure. No exceptions will be made.
MotoHimalayas holds no financial liability whatsoever for any medical, hospital, or emergency evacuation expenses incurred by any participant. The participant is solely and entirely responsible for all such costs.
Purchase Options
The Company does not sell, broker, or distribute insurance products. We may, for your convenience, refer you to IRDAI-registered insurance providers who offer suitable travel and adventure policies.
However, any insurance contract will be entered into directly between you and the insurer of your choice. The Company does not act as an insurance agent, broker, corporate agent, or intermediary.
Minimum Coverage Requirements
If purchasing a policy from a third-party insurance provider, the policy must satisfy the following minimum coverage requirements:
(a) Motorcycle / Riding Coverage
The policy must specifically cover the riding of a motorcycle in India including the Himalayan region, with an engine capacity of 500cc and above.
(b) Personal Accident Cover
Minimum sum insured: INR [5,00,000] lakhs per participant, covering accidental death, permanent total disablement, and permanent partial disablement.
(c) Medical Hospitalisation
Minimum sum insured: INR [5,00,000] lakhs per participant, covering hospitalisation, medical treatment, and emergency medical expenses.
(d) High-Altitude Emergency Evacuation
The policy must cover emergency medical evacuation — including helicopter airlift — from high-altitude zones of up to five thousand five hundred metres (5,500 m) above sea level. Minimum evacuation benefit: INR [10,00,000] lakhs.
(e) Trip Interruption and Cancellation — Recommended
We strongly recommend that your policy also covers trip interruption and cancellation to protect your financial investment in the event that you need to abandon the tour midway due to a medical emergency, personal emergency, or Force Majeure Event.
(f) Proof of Insurance
Participants must present a valid original or certified copy of their insurance certificate, along with details of the 24-hour emergency assistance helpline, before the commencement of the trip.
Fraudulent or Invalid Insurance Documentation
Presentation of fraudulent, forged, expired, or otherwise invalid insurance documentation shall constitute a material breach of these Terms and Conditions. In such event, the Company reserves the right to:
- Refuse to permit the participant to commence the tour;
- Immediately terminate the participant's booking without any obligation to provide a refund; and
- Seek recovery of any costs, losses, or liabilities incurred by the Company as a direct result of such misrepresentation.
Motorcycle Damage Insurance
Our rental motorcycles are provided with standard third-party insurance as required under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Accidental damage to the motorcycle up to a specified deductible amount — as communicated in the rental agreement — remains the rider's financial responsibility.
A refundable security deposit for rental motorcycles will be collected prior to the commencement of the tour to cover potential minor damages not covered by the applicable insurance policy. The security deposit, or any unutilised portion thereof, will be returned to the rider within seven (7) working days of the conclusion of the tour, subject to the condition and damage assessment of the motorcycle.
The tour leader will assist with coordinating emergency services and liaising with insurance providers in the event of an accident; however, the financial liability for any uninsured or deductible loss remains solely with the participant.
